Through the years, John was involved in a vast variety of projects. What began as a series of experiments for friends, students and his school soon broadened to include renderings for his favorite charities and local organizations. Working with authors and corporations, John designed and executed holiday cards, posters, magazine illustrations, menus, murals, children’s illustrations and even an album cover (for the ‘80s band The Bongos’ Beat Hotel vinyl). A fan of local history, John provided area historical societies and authors many illustrations and renderings of the local scene from as far back as the 17th century to the present time.

For over 20 years John Bishop was in charge of the stage design and scene painting for East Rockaway Schools’ annual musicals, a popular event among the neighboring communities.
